Aria Fazelimanesh
In this reading
Gee is trying to explain the literacy with describing the definition of
discourse. He believes that discourses are the one that connect and separate
individuals. Also he mentions "identity Kit" which means people with different rolls in society have different way of speaking.
We can see that
acquisition values more to the author in this reading than learning, He believes that if you acquire something you have more control and better performance as he says
“ we are better at what we acquire but we consciously know more about what we
learn" (pg.259). Gee also says that linguists sometimes cant speak the language they
learn in classroom because they learn it.
Family can be your main source of primary discourses and your job, schools etc. make your secondary discourses For example black kids in middle society class have different discourse than other kids, which makes them different from each other.
After reading this essay I realized how much discourses are related to literacy. Because people criticize each other’s discourses.

The abbreviation “Ed.” means “Edited by,” so it is the same for one or multiple editors.
