I want to start with the discussion saying that I get so familiar with the lecture because I had to learned a second language and I know how difficult was that and which techniques does the teachers used. First I learned English by an institute that taught second language must be learned by traditional learning and then I changed to another institute that taught second language must be learned by current acquisition, so that's why I get so familiar with the lecture because all the examples and methods I already knew a little bit about them.
In the first institute they taught me the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar so I could understand easily, they started with the present tense and then with the past and future but they wanted to make sure we understand every word. Also we had a lot of exercises in the book so we could get familiar with the grammar and the vocabulary. About the reading they taught me that I needed to search for the meaning of every word that I didn't understand so I could decode the word as the lecture said. In the other institute they cared more about if we understand and we knew how to use English in different situations, they didn't care so much If we had mistakes in our phrases but they wanted that we express our ideas. They helped us with some strategies to communicate. About the reading we had to do it silently so we could develop our comprehension and after read the same word several times we could infer want does the word mean.
The lecture was interesting and it helped me a lot to figure it out why does the teachers taught in both of those systems and why do they use those methods.
